About Us
Welcome to
Ladekoju
The Ladekoju Arts and Culture Foundation was established in 2021 to restore the renowned Osogbo, Osun Heritage house and reconnect indigenous Yoruba ways of knowing to citizens and descendants of Africa and beyond.
The initiative has a commitment to fully restore African indigenous communal institutions, practices, and technologies that have historically been suppressed under colonialism and continue to be subjugated and persecuted globally.
Osogbo,
Osun State
The significance of the location in Osogbo, Nigeria is enormous as it represents the origin and lineage source of venerated traditions that proliferated across the diaspora, taking on new and modified forms following the Trans-Atlantic slave trade.
Ladekoju Arts and Culture Foundation is housed in a historic building dedicated to centralizing efforts related to the education, documentation, and veneration of the Osun River and the Sacred Groves that are interwoven with ancestral and natural realms.
Dedication to
Restoration
Ladekoju is dedicated to the development of social, economic, and spiritual initiatives and ways of knowing to inspire social responsibility and ecological care through sacred art traditions, scholarship, education, restitution, and restoration.
Ladekoju has taken a multifaceted approach to this effort by advancing the movement and conversation with a model for the inseparable bond between restitution and restoration.
Rooted in
Living Knowledge
An essential component of the active guiding epistemologies of Ladekoju includes Ifá, orin, oríkì, and itan, which illustrate the tangible as well as the often-overlooked intangible aspects of restitution.
A critical element of the organization's approach is based on teaching the cultural technologies of the Eéríndìnlógún and the Ifa literary corpus as well as other Yoruba oral traditions. The Eéríndìnlógún consists of 16 cowries' divination and the Odu Ifa consists of 256 parts.
